Williamsburg
Soccer Club Mission Statement
The
Williamsburg Soccer Club (WSC) is a soccer club dedicated to the
development of soccer players from the years of youth to adult. Through
quality coaching and programs the WSC strives to make the game enjoyable
and educational for each participating player.
The
Aims and Philosophy of the WSC
Player
development is the number one concern at the WSC. The ultimate goal of the
WSC is to develop players to be able to go on to the next level, whether
it is to move from a Dynamo team to a United team, from a United team to a
Wizard team, play in college, in a professional setting or play for the US
National Team. We have a commitment to our players to put them in an
environment that is challenging and will constantly test them. As players
mature it is important to move players either up or down to ensure that
they are constantly tested at their own individual level. All of these
challenges must be within a fun yet demanding environment. Technical,
tactical, psychological and physical aspects of the game will all be
taught within the structure of the curriculum.
Code
of Conduct
As
a person and a player we demand the highest of expectations from players
at all times whether it is on or off the field. At all times you are
representing the WSC and yourself. We only want the highest quality person
associated with the program here at the Williamsburg Soccer Club. At all
times we expect players to respect all the relative participants in the
soccer world including but not limited to coaches, officials, referees,
players and parents whether they are from the WSC or an opposing club. At
all times we expect players to use good common sense. Any violation of
these expectations will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Role
of the parent
The
role of each parent is extremely important for all young athletes. At
training, we ask that all parents respect that the players are training
and to stay a good distance from the fields during all training sessions.
If parents plan on attending games, we will be happy to have you at our
games applauding good play. There is, however, to be no coaching by
parents from the sidelines during games or at training. Referees are
not to be abused in any way. Please do not berate or shout at referees. We
all make mistakes! Coaches are not to be approached by parents at training
or games either before or afterwards concerning players. This is a time
for both the coach of the team and the players to be focused on the task
at hand. If you have a coaching concern please direct it to the coach at
the appropriate time. If it cannot be resolved at that level please
contact Richard Butler, Director of Coaching, at either 757-220-3794 or wsc@widomaker.com,
who in turn talk to the coach about the perceived concern or problem.
Likewise, if you have administrative questions please direct them to Tracy
Trueblood, WSC Administrator, at either 757-220-3794 or
ttrueblood@widomaker.com. As parents, the coaching
staff, administration and players need your support to make this a very
positive endeavor.
The coaching staff that is presently employed by myself is also one of the best in the
State. Each coach is hand picked by Richard Butler, the Director of Coaching. Some of the best coaches
in Virginia are currently coaching within the club. With these quality coaches, players
have risen to play not only for the Virginia State team but also the Regional and National
teams. Please see the Coaches section for more details.
The boys and girls elite teams (under 10 through under 18) play their league games in the Virginia
Club Champions League (VCCL). The league was formed in the Spring of 1997 in order to try
to elevate each team to a new level. There are seven other members of the league: Richmond
Strikers, Richmond Magic, Beach FC, Roanoke Soccer Club, SOCA out
of Charlottesville, and new for Fall 2004 Richmond Kickers and Reston
FC. Girls
teams were added in the Fall of 2000 to the VCCL.
The boys premier and classic teams play in the Virginia Soccer League, Inc
(VSLI). Teams in this league come from Newport News, Yorktown, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach,
Gloucester Chesapeake, Richmond, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, and
Charlottesville..
Whether a player is male or female, playing for a premier team or a classic team, the WSC
is committed to developing each player as an individual within a team environment. Each
team is placed in competitive surroundings being challenged and having to make good
decisions. It is with the great training at the WSC that these good decisions can be made
and each player progress to their potential. If you have any questions, please call
