Friant, was appointed full-time Assistant Director of Coaching for Williamsburg Soccer Club in
January of 2002, has coached for WSC for seven years and currently coaches the WSC
Wizards U12 Elite, the club’s top U-12 boys team and assists the WSC
Phoenix U16 Elite and WSC Phoenix U16 Elite, the club’s top older girls
teams. In the
last seven years Friant has also coached or assisted with the following teams:
U10-U15 United, U14-U15 Liberty, U18 Hotspurs, U18 Express, U18 Blast, and the U11 Mutiny.
Friant’s teams have placed 21 members on College programs and placed
members in the
Virginia Olympic Development Program. Since
joining WSC, his teams have won 7 outdoor tournament championships and 9 outdoor Runner-up titles. Indoors
his teams have won 12 championships and 11 runner-up titles.
Teams he has been involved in coaching have reached as far as
Semi-Finals in the Virginia State Cup. Chris also serves Director of
Coaching and coaches for the WSC Super Y Program
Friant began his coaching career in 1987 at
Gloucester High School, Gloucester, Virginia assisting his high school coach
at the varsity level. The
following year he took over a struggling JV program and in one year produced
an over .500 team. In 1989
Friant was named the Head Varsity Coach.
Inheriting a program that had not won a district game in six years.
Friant was named District Coach of the Year three times in his six
years at GHS. All of his teams
finished fourth or better and the program started its current 12 year
streak of Peninsula District tournament appearances (the longest of any PD
team). For the past two years,
Friant has been the JV Boys and Assistant Girls Varsity Coach at Walsingham
Academy. And currently serves as interim Assistant Coach for the
Women's Program at Christopher Newport University
Friant currently holds a “C” license with
the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), a National Coaching License and
a National Youth License with
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and a Certificate
with the KNVB National Dutch Soccer Federation
