Played
with the
Williamsburg
Legacy in 2005
It
was announced last week that Maurice Hughes a former
Williamsburg Legacy player has signed a professional contract
with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the United Soccer Leagues 1st
Division. Hughes played for the Legacy during the 2005 campaign
when the Legacy went
4-8-4
.
He played in 7 games and scored 8 goals including a hatrick
against the West Virginia Chaos on July 22.
“Maurice
has electric pace and a terrific left foot. Although he was
injured for much of our season last year, he clearly showed at
times that he had the potential to get to the next level. He is
a tricky player who loves to take players on and score goals.
With his pace and skill he has the ability to get in behind
defenders and that as coaches we love to see. I wish him all the
best with the Silverbacks”, said head Legacy head coach
Richard Butler.
Hughes
attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham
where he played for the Blazers in 2004 and 2005 where he also
earned All-Conference USA honors and helped UAB to top 25
rankings both seasons. Prior to attending UAB he attended
Yavapai
Junior College
in
Arizona
from 2002 to 2004. At Yavapai he was a two-time NSCAA Junior
College All-American and two-time
NJCAA Tournament MVP.
