3
teams play in finals
This
past weekend 16 Williamsburg Soccer Club teams traveled to the
“Big Toe” Chesterfield United Tournament. The tournament
featured over 400 teams from all over the eastern seaboard. The
club placed 3 teams in finals and of the 3, the U15 ’90
Williamsburg Wizards (boys) ended up as champions. The Wizards
went 2-0-0 in pool play and then beat Northern Steel Phantoms
(PA) in the semis 2-0. They then followed that win up with a
stunning double overtime defeat of fellow Virginia Club
Champions League club SOCA (VA) 3-2 in the final. In other
finals the U14 ’91 Williamsburg United (boys) fell 2-1 to
Chesterfield United South (VA) in overtime and the U11 ’94
Williamsburg Phoenix (girls) lost to a strong ’94 CASL
Quicksilver (NC) 3-0 in the championship game.
“The
Big Toe Chesterfield United tournament has been a staple for our
club for many years now”, said Richard Butler, Director of
Coaching. “The tournament provides us with good competition
for a preseason workout. All of the teams played at least three
games and it is a good environment to
see our players play prior to starting our league seasons over
the next couple of weeks. It was a beautiful weekend and great
to see our girls and boys out playing again. We are all looking
forward to some good soccer come the spring time”, he
continued.
