WSC
Hosts National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional Coaching
Course
The
Williamsburg Soccer Club (WSC) hosted the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSACC) Regional Coaching Course this past
weekend at Walsingham Academy. The course was instructed by both Al
Albert, former William and Mary head coach, and Chris Norris,
current William and Mary head coach on both Saturday and Sunday. 29
people attended the course on a cold weekend and 12 of those candidates
were either WSC players or coaches. Those who participated from the WSC
coaching staff were, Doug Dahnke, Seth Jenkins, Brent Trainum and
Kenny Whitehead. There were also a number of Williamsburg Legacy and
former WSC youth players including Bryan Davis, Andrew Hoxie, Michael
Krewinghaus, Brannon Thomas and Shawn Trueblood. Three current WSC
players also took the course, Jason Brown, Michael Ferebee and Derek
Hanson who all play for the U17 ’88 Wizards.
Three
coaches from the club were fortunate to spend the past week in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida at the NSCAA Residential Academy. Bobby
O’Brien, the new Assistant Director of Coaching, undertook the
National Diploma while two longtime WSC coaches, Tom Finley and Mike
Scruggs, attended the Advanced National Diploma. “It is very nice
to see coaches and players getting more and more educated about our
game,” said Richard Butler, Director of Coaching. “The NSCAA
offers some good coaching courses both on a regional and national level.
By taking the time to attend these courses these guys have shown a
commitment to soccer and to try and stay up to date with coaching
methodology and it can only help our players”
