Williamsburg
Wizards Elite '86 played well against two time National Champion
Rochester Raging Rhinos Juniors U-18 but suffered a 3 - 1 loss.
The
Wizards scored first and shocked the Rhinos on a wonderful cross
by Andrew Hoxie that was converted crisply by Ryan Eure.
The Wizards continued their crisp play but suffered a equalizing goal
before the half.
Early
in the second half the Rhinos Juniors converted on a controversial
through ball. Some claimed it was off side but the most
important people (referees) assured all that the play was on sides.
In order to move ahead to Nationals the Wizards needed to win by 3
goals.
Despite
controlling the possession the Wizards were unable to convert.
At the 65th minute WSC went forward with three up top.
Unfortunately within a very short time the Rhinos converted a counter
attack and went ahead 3 - 1. That is the way the game ended.
Williamsburg left the field their pride intact, never having folded
the tent, nor given any quarter. It was a wonderful way to end a
successful youth soccer youth soccer career.
The
players gathered for a final picture and the congratulations were
given all around. After the pictures the fathers gathered and
shook all the players hand and wished them well.
Richard
Butler (WSC Coaching Director and Coach) was the recipient of many
well wishes and thanks. All were grateful to WSC for their
support and wish all the WSC Underclassmen and Women the same
wonderful experiences that all on the WSC Wizards 86' were privileged
to experience.
It
is possible that these players will gather next year to
again compete for the State Championship (U-19) and the
Regional title for the right to move on to the National Tournament.
