Day 1

We arrived in Shannon Ireland Monday and enjoyed a true Irish breakfast at Bunratty Castle then it was on to Cobh to get checked in the hotel and relax. Many checked out Kelly's Pub for the evening while the boys enjoyed some fast food at Mimmo's.

Day 2

We began our day with a train ride in to Cork City. As this was Phil's hometown, we were treated to the real tour and it included all the places he grew up etc. We met at City Hall and were greeted by the Deputy Lord Mayor Mary Shields. We were given a history of Cork City as well as background on the immigration of the Irish to America and other lands. We then traveled by foot through the city seeing sights such as the Beamish Brewery and stopped at St. Finnbarre Cathederal. We then hopped on a tour bus to visit the rest of the city. Some stayed on the bus while others shopped. Once back in Cobh, we were treated to a semi pro soccer match between Cobh Ramblers and Waterford. Unfortunately, the home team lost 1-0, however, the boys enjoyed watching soccer at this level and learning a few new words.

Day 3

We rose early and took the bus to Killarney via the Ring of Kerry. Most of the boys slept but the parents really enjoyed the views! After a day of shopping and touring the city, we were ready for our first match of the trip. Our boys played very well however, were defeated 2-0 on a couple of unluckys!. The bus ride back to Cobh was fun as were treated to some traditional Irish folk music from our tour guide Peter Payne and Mary Neiland and her nephew Kenneth who had just won the Teen Idol competition in Cork City.

Day 4

Day trip to Kinsale. Most ventured out to see Fort Charles and complete a walking tour of this beautiful harbor city. A couple of folks stayed back to enjoy a round of golf at Water Rock. Boys spent the evening training while the parents enjoyed exploring the numerous pubs in Cobh.

Day 5

A free day for folks. The boys completed two training sessions in preparation for the tournament this weekend while parents visited the sights in Cobh, Fota Park and a small group took the long journey to Dublin for the day. All are enjoying their visit so far and have learned a deep appreciation for the culture and customs of the Irish people. We have noticed that Irish Time is a little different than American time and they are a little more laid back than at home.
