U18 ’86 Williamsburg Wizards To Compete At The United States Youth Soccer Region One Championships.  Championships will take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia

 

The U18 ’86 Williamsburg Wizards will represent the State of Virginia at the 2005 United States Youth Soccer (USYS) Region One Championships to be held in Virginia Beach July 1-5, 2005. The Wizards gained the right to represent Virginia in a breathtaking State Cup final in which the team won 4-3 in sudden death over time against Reston Football Club. As soon as high school soccer is over for the Wizards there will be team training in Williamsburg in preparation for the regional competition. Some of the players who have finished their high school soccer are currently training with the Williamsburg Legacy, the club’s senior team that plays in the Premier Development League. The Wizards will also play in some warm up tournaments and friendly games.

 

“This is a great opportunity for these players,” said head coach and Director of Coaching for the Williamsburg Soccer Club, Richard Butler. “The competition will be as good as we have ever seen. Everyone associated with the team is excited about the prospect of representing Virginia in a few weeks time.”

 

There will be 16 teams representing the USYS Region One state associations from Virginia to Maine and across to West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. There will be four groups of four teams in each division. The four winners of each group will advance to the semi finals. The draw is random and will be made in June. The USYS hosts age for both boys and girls U12 to U19.

 

The team will travel to Virginia Beach on Thursday June 30th and will play preliminary group games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The winner of each group will then advance to the semi finals on Monday July 4rd. The finals will be played on Tuesday July 5th.
