U14
’90 Williamsburg Wizards Advance To Virginia State Cup Final Four
The
U-14 Wizards beat SOCA 3-2 in double overtime to advance to their
first State Cup Final Four. Gavin Vest scored the game-winning
goal off of a Karl Kummer corner kick in the first minute of the
second overtime. The Wizards took the lead in the game at the
20-minute mark of the first half on another Vest-Kummer combination.
Karl crossed the ball from the left-side end line and Gavin punched it
passed the goalie for a 1-0 Wizards lead. That scored held up
until the 10-minute mark of the second half when Sean Moriarty took a
loose ball in midfield and headed it over the defenders to Karl Kummer,
who one-touched it and then shot it low into the right side of the net
to make the score 2-0. With 10 minutes left in the game, SOCA
took advantage of a loose ball inside the penalty area and shot
it in to cut the Wizards lead 2-1. Five minutes later SOCA
scored again on a shot from 20 yards out that just got by the
outstretched hands of goalie, Drake Kuhn, to tie make it a 2-2 game.
The Wizards continued to give themselves opportunities to score, but
just couldn't finish, and at the end of regulation time the game was 2-2.
The first overtime saw more of the same Wizard chances, but ended with
the game still tied. That led to the golden goal by Gavin Vest,
and the Wizards will now be playing in the Virginia State Cup Final
Four.
