Former Williamsburg Soccer Club Players Now Coaching For The Club
Today
the Williamsburg Soccer Club (WSC) released its coaching assignments
for the 2005-06 season. The slate of coaches includes seven former WSC
players who will be coaching during the next year. “It is fantastic
to see our former players coming back to Williamsburg and giving back
to the next generation of young players in our area’, said Richard
Butler, Director of Coaching. “It is these former players that have
played in our system and the US college system who can lend their
experiences and skills to these players. It is important in the US in
general that these experienced soccer players continue to help what
will be the players of the future.”
“This
year I will be focusing a lot of attention on the girls program and
Johnny Kamara, one of my right hand coaches, will be concentrating on
the boys side of the club. Johnny has a great ability to connect with
players and he is a coach players really look up to and respond to. I
will continue to be around the whole program but my real emphasis will
be with the girls. I think it will be a good combination for the
club,” added Butler.
The
list of coaches for the 23 teams is impressive. There are 6 present or
former college level coaches, 15 former college players and 16 coaches
who are licensed. “This is a great group of coaches. We work well
together and everyone is on the same page with what I expect around
both the training and game facilities. The nice thing about this group
is that we are all able to work together for a common cause which is
the training of players in both soccer and life skills,” said Butler
