Summer
Excellence Program 2006
Introduction
This
summer the Williamsburg Soccer Club has decided to continue its
Summer Excellence Program. There
is definitely a need for a high level summer program for our top
players. As the youth soccer landscape changes, almost on a daily
basis, so must the Williamsburg Soccer Club adapt but also, more
importantly, lead by example. Youth soccer has become a year round
sport and therefore it is vital to train and play the majority of
the year. For older players (U15 and older) there can no longer be a
two month hiatus from soccer if players want to make it to the next
level. All this being said the Summer Excellence Program has been
put together for our players U14 and older (as of the 2005/06
season). This program is a combination of training, friendly games
and tournaments that are put into a month time frame. This group of
activities will enhance and stimulate our players without causing
players to become over worked. It is hoped that the majority of our
U14, 15, 16 and 17 boy’s Wizard teams will participate, some of
our players from the United level and some players from outside of
the WSC. There will also be a girl’s team comprised of the U16
Phoenix team and some of the U14 Phoenix as well.
Age
Groups
2005-2006
age groups will be used. USYS age groups will be used based on
August 1 birthdates. Teams will play in the U15, and U17 Wizards
(boys) age groups. The girls will play in the U16 age group.
Roster
sizes
All
players will be carded through US Club Soccer. This gives us the
flexibility to go to 20 man rosters.
Training
Training
will be held at Queens Lake Middle School on the dates and at the
times indicated below under “Schedule”.
Game
Schedule
The
games schedule is listed below. The Central Jersey Invitational will
be a good tournament. We
attended it last year with the program and the facilities and
competition were very good. It
will be a good chance for the players to compete against teams from
a different part of the country.
There will also be friendly games arranged with other clubs.
The idea is to get between 5 and 7 games that will really
mean something and that will test our players.
Coaches
Coaches
will be used from the Williamsburg Soccer Club program. Coaches will
include Richard Butler, Johnny Kamara, Bobby O’Brien, Chuck
Connelly and others. Although
each team will have a head coach all coaches will help with all
teams as we continue our club wide coaching philosophy.
Uniforms
There
will be no cost for uniforms for players who are WSC players.
Players will wear their shorts and socks from the regular season and
use their grey warm up top. A white and a black jersey (and goal
keeper jersey) will be provided by the club for each game.
Cost
The
cost is $225. This covers all fees associated with coaching,
administration, insurance, registration, field and tournaments. It
does not include any travel expenses associated with training,
tournaments or games. This is the responsibility of the player. This does not include
the cost of the Manchester United Soccer Camp.
Payments are to be made on March 1, 2006 ($100 non refundable
deposit) and on May 1 ($125). All payments should be mailed to WSC,
PO Box 296, Williamsburg, VA 23187. Scholarships will be available.
