WILLIAMSBURG SOCCER CLUB PLACES 3 TEAMS IN FINALS AT THE RALEIGH SHOOTOUT - Other club teams also perform well at area tournaments advancing to the finals and semi finals

 

November 13 and 14 proved to be a big weekend for Williamsburg Soccer Club teams as three teams made it to the finals at the Raleigh Shootout, in Raleigh North Carolina and one team ended up in the finals at the Zerious Soccer at the Zone Tournament in Chesapeake, Virginia. At the Raleigh Shootout, hosted by one of the best clubs in the USA, CASL, NC, the WSC U18 Wizards, WSC U17 Wizards and WSC U15 Wizards all proceeded onto the finals. The WSC U18 Wizards won 2 games and drew one in their preliminary rounds. They had a 2-0 win over Knoxville Fire, TN, a 4-2 victory over CASL Premier and drew their third game 2-2 with GSA Phoenix Red from Georgia. In the final they were taken all the way through the game by the Brandon FC Flames finally succumbing 4-3 in overtime. The Wizards were down 3-0 in the final before tying up the game with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Goals through Chris Knorowski, Andrew Hoxie and Marcus Dixon got the Wizards level before falling at the final hurdle. The WSC U17 Wizards had a strong day on Saturday winning both games 2-1. First they beat SOCA Lightning from Virginia and then they defeated the Freestate Warthogs from Maryland. Even though they lost their third group game 2-1 to Classic Hammer from Ohio they still advanced on points to the final. In the final the Wizards lost to a good Ohio Elite team, also from Ohio, 3-1. The WSC U15 Wizards won their three preliminary games all by a score of 2-0. They first defeated CASL United, then FC Frederick from Maryland and then finally VA CASL Elite. In the final they lost 2-1 to Premier from South Carolina. The WSC U14 Wizards also participated, going 2-1-0 over the two days. For more details please go to www.casltournaments.com.

 

A number of club teams played in other area tournaments also. At the Zerious Soccer at the Zone Tournament the WSC U16 Wizards were runners up in the U17 division. In preliminary games the Wizards were 2-0-0 defeating FLU Force 2-0 and Lightning 4-0, both from Virginia. In the semi finals they faced our own U17 United and eventually defeated them on penalties after a close fought 0-0 tie after regulation. In the final they faced the Lightning again and after a 2-2 tie in regulation finally lost in penalty kicks. Also competing were the WSC U13 United (1-2-0), WSC U14 United (1-1-2, finishing in 3rd place), WSC U15 United (0-1-2), WSC U15 Dynamo (0-2-1), WSC U16 United (1-2-0, lost in the semi finals after penalty kicks) and WSC U17 United (1-2-0, lost in the semi finals after penalty kicks). In Roanoke the WSC U18 United were 1-0-2 at the Fall Classic hosted by the Roanoke Soccer Club. For more details go to www.roanokestar.com

 

At the Bethesda Invitational Tournament in Maryland the girls U12 and 13 Phoenix participated. The WSC U13 Phoenix got off to a good start on Saturday drawing both games and then lost in their third on Sunday to end the weekend 0-1-2 and the WSC U12 Phoenix were 0-3-0 over the two days.
