WILLIAMSBURG
SOCCER CLUB TEAMS SHOW WELL IN TOURNAMENTS
Girls
U15 Phoenix, U13 Phoenix and boys U12 Wizards are Runners Up
The
WSC U13 Phoenix girls traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina last
weekend and placed second in the prestigious Raleigh Shootout hosted by
CASL of North Carolina. The girls got off to a good start on Saturday
morning defeating the Winston-Salem Twins of North Carolina 1-0 at the
beautiful Davis Drive Park in Cary. The afternoon game proved to be a barn
burner as the Phoenix led for the whole game eventually running out 5-3
winners over Triangle FC White from Raleigh. This placed them first in the
group with 6 points. Their opponent on Sunday in the semi finals was the
Explosion also from North Carolina. After a close battle the Phoenix
prevailed 3-1 and the final match up was set for Sunday with CESA
Challenge from South Carolina. Both teams battled hard but neither team
could break the deadlock in either regulation or over time with the score
remaining 0-0. Eventually, in a game of attrition the Challenge won 6-5 in
a penalty shoot out. For full results please go to www.casltournaments.com.
Many
WSC teams were also in action at the VA CASL tournament in Richmond,
Virginia. The U15 WSC Phoenix girls team did well placing second
while playing up in the U16 girls division. The Phoenix came out slow only
drawing their first game 1-1 against the U16 SOCA Metro team from
Charlottesville. In their second game they picked up the pace and beat a
good CHUS Premier team 1-0. In the final game and needing a win to go
through to the finals the Phoenix found their scoring touch and beat the
Virginia Rush Cyclones from Virginia Beach 5-3. In the final the Phoenix
were matched up against the older U16 CASA-HMMS United from Pennsylvania
eventually going down 6-0.
The
boys U12 WSC Wizards also did very well in getting to the final of
their group. The Wizards went 3-0 in group play beating SOCA Metro 2-0,
Stafford Quest 3-2 and Valley AFC Blazers 1-0 on route to the final. There
they met VA CASL Elite by whom they were beaten 1-0 in the Sunday match
up. Other WSC teams in the tournament played well also, some going
unbeaten but not advancing along with the boys U17 Wizards who lost in the
semi finals. For full details please go to www.vacasl.org.
