Bobby
O’Brien the former Williamsburg Soccer Club (WSC) and Virginia Tech
player has been hired by the Williamsburg Soccer Club as a full time
Assistant Director of Coaching. Bobby played for the WSC from 1994-2000.
During his time at the WSC he played in two State Cup Finals and three
State Cup Semi Finals in five years with the WSC Blast team. He was also a
semi finalist at the prestigious San Diego Surf Cup, a champion at the
Raleigh CASL Shootout and his team won the Super Clubs Regional
Championship in Orlando, Florida.
After
graduating from the Williamsburg Soccer Club O’Brien then went on to
star at Virginia Tech from 2000-2004. During his four years at Tech
O’Brien scored 29 goals and 15 assists as he played primarily as a
forward. When he ended his career last fall O’Brien was 6th on both the
all-time goals scored list (29) and all-time total points (73) at Tech. In
his senior year O’Brien was a 1st team all Virginia and his team MVP. He
set a school record for most goals in a season his senior year with 15 and
most goals in a game with 4. He was also captain of the team for his
final two seasons leading the Hokies to their first ever NCAA Division 1
playoff berth in 2004 and a final NSCAA ranking of #20. In both 2002 and
2003 O’Brien was a member of the successful Williamsburg Legacy, the
club’s Premier Development League team that made it into the national
playoffs both years. He has worked camps for the WSC since 1996 and has
been a summer intern since 2002.
Since
becoming a part-time member of the Williamsburg Soccer Club in 2004,
O’Brien has worked with all ages. In addition to overseeing to
overseeing the travel program he was also the assistant coach for the WSC
Phoenix U-16 Elite and U-18 Elite teams as well. With his new role,
O’Brien will continue to coach, but will also help run the Beginners
Clinic and Boys and Girls Developmental Leagues for players ages 4-10, and
the Williamsburg Legacy Summer Camp Program, as well as serve as an
Assistant Coach for the Williamsburg Legacy. “I am really excited
about the opportunity to be a part of the Williamsburg Soccer Club.
This organization has given a lot to me over the past 10 years and I look
forward to giving back to the club and helping it to continue on its path
as one of the top programs in the state and the nation.”

experience to give back our young players. Bobby has shown over the years
a great ability to connect with children of all ages. He will be heavily
involved with Developmental Programs but also will be working with players
throughout the Travel Team Program and right up to the Legacy, our senior
team. We are excited that he will be joining our team full time”
